Single Status Affidavit — Notarial Certification
A single status affidavit is a legal document in which a person declares before a notary that they are unmarried. This affidavit is commonly required when foreign authorities need proof of marital status — for marriage registration abroad, visa applications, immigration, or other bureaucratic procedures. The notarial certification gives the affidavit full legal validity.
What is a single status affidavit?
A single status affidavit is a sworn statement made before a licensed notary under the Notaries Law, 1976 (חוק הנוטריונים, תשל״ו-1976). The declarant confirms that they are not married, not in a common-law relationship, and not bound by any other marriage commitment. The notary verifies the declarant's identity, explains the meaning of the affidavit, and certifies the signature. The affidavit bears an official notarial seal and is recognized in Israel and abroad.
